SOZO MACHINE

Advanced Fluid & Body Composition Analysis

The SOZO Machine is a state-of-the-art medical device that uses bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) to deliver fast, accurate, and non-invasive measurements of body composition and fluid status. This cutting-edge technology allows clinicians to detect subtle changes within the body that are often invisible to standard assessment methods.

At Total Physiocare, we use SOZO to provide deeper insights that enhance diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing monitoring, ensuring every patient receives the highest standard of personalised care. This enables us to monitor prophylactically for lymphoedema in high-risk groups.

What is Bioimpedance Spectroscopy (BIS)?

Bioimpedance Spectroscopy is an advanced scientific method that measures how the body responds to a harmless electrical current.
While the patient stands on and holds the SOZO device, the SOZO analyses the resistance and reactance of body tissues, enabling highly detailed data across each body section.

This process is:

  • Safe

  • Pain-free

  • Non-invasive

  • Completed in under 30 seconds

What Does SOZO Measure?

The SOZO Machine provides comprehensive measurements including:

Body Composition

  • Lean body mass

  • Fat mass

  • Muscle distribution

  • Total body water

Fluid Status

  • Extracellular and intracellular fluid balance

  • Early detection of fluid shifts which can indicate cellular change

  • Monitoring for fluid retention

L-Dex® Lymphoedema Index

A key feature of SOZO is its ability to detect early signs of lymphoedema long before physical symptoms appear.
The L-Dex score helps clinicians identify changes in lymphatic fluid, allowing for early intervention and better long-term outcomes.

Why Do We Use the SOZO Machine?

The SOZO analysis provides valuable information that supports:

  • Early Detection: Minor fluid changes can indicate developing conditions such as lymphoedema, dehydration, inflammation, or changes in nutritional status.

  • Better Treatment Planning: With accurate data, clinicians can tailor rehabilitation, exercise, or lymphatic management programs to the patient’s needs.

  • Ongoing Monitoring: Because scans are quick and repeatable, clinicians can track progress over time and adjust treatment accordingly.

  • Confident Clinical Decisions: Better data means the right intervention at the right time.

Who Can Benefit From SOZO Assessment?

SOZO is suitable for many patient groups, including those managing:

  • Lymphoedema or at risk following cancer treatment

  • Post-surgical swelling

  • Chronic fluid retention

  • Weight management

  • Muscle loss or deconditioning

  • Sports recovery and performance optimisation

  • Lipoedema diagnosis and monitoring

What to Expect During Your Assessment

Your SOZO scan will take around 30 seconds.

You’ll be asked to stand barefoot on the device and place your hands on the electrodes. No needles, no discomfort, and no special preparation beyond avoiding heavy exercise or large meals immediately prior.

Results are available instantly, and will be discussed and provided to you by your treating physiotherapist.

Accurate, Fast, and Evidence-Based

The SOZO Machine is trusted in hospitals, cancer centres, rehabilitation clinics, and is the gold standard of measurement in allied health settings worldwide. Precise measurements guide safer, more effective clinical care.
